Yes, they are expensive compared to more traditional bikes, that's true @Sanjo. But a more honest comparison would be to compare it to a smaller car, as they are doing a pretty good at replacing a car in your daily life and for shorter trips.
I recently purchased a so-called long-tail cargo bike. This typical variant was not that expensive, at least not compared to other cargo bike models. But sure, it was a sizeable investment for me, but I do not regret purchasing it at all. I am so happy I have it, as it has been able to replace so many unnecessary road trips β and the kids love it.
But the real problem for cargo bikes, in my mind, is not really the cost β especially not if you compare it to a smaller car and all the various costs that are associated with that. No, the issue is actually the size of cargo bikes. They are pretty big and heavy and take up a lot of space β even the smaller models. So, most people will have a hard time storing their cargo bikes, especially if you live in flats that doesn't have any good and proper storage rooms for bikes.
